How to Configure Overrides and Setup Custom Config File Profiles

This article goes over what overrides are and how to configure them

Device overrides allow you to override the default configuration profile for a phone or a group of phones.

They use a global format that is the same across all devices, this format is written as:

parameter="value"

IMPORTANT - The above format is converted for you, so even if the format of the device's config file is different, such as:

<parameter>value</parameter>

or

parameter = value

You will till use the listed format instead, as it will automatically convert for you.

Supported parameters match 1 to 1 with their supported values in the config file. Please reach out to the manufacturer for more information on this.

You can configure overrides in one of 3 places, the domain, the site, or the device.

If configured on the domain, all devices under that domain will inherit the overrides.

If configured on the site, all devices under that site will inherit the overrides, the site will also override any settings on the domain.

If configured on the device then only that device will inherit the overrides, and it will override any settings on the domain or on the site.

NOTE - When modifying defaults anywhere, you must resync the phones afterwards for them to pull the new configuration file.

Domain Overrides

You can configure overrides on the domain by navigating to the domain defaults under domain settings.

From here, at the bottom you should see a box labelled "Device Defaults". You can add any overrides into this box.

WARNING - The device defaults box only shows up when modifying an existing domain, if you're creating a new domain, save it first then edit it for the box to show.

NOTE - For the most part if an override isn't correct for a device the device will just ignore it. This means you can configure overrides for multiple manufacturers on a domain/site and the devices will only pull the overrides applicable to them.

For example, you can include overrides for both Polycoms and Yealinks and the Polycom devices will pull the overrides for themselves and ignore the Yealink overrides (and visa versa).

This is not the case if both manufacturers share the same name for a parameter.

Site Overrides

For sites, navigate to "Users" -> "Sites" then select the site you wish to configure, from here just like with domains there is a "Device Defaults" box you can enter overrides into.

Device Overrides

For devices, head to the "Phones" tab, then select "Edit" next to the device you wish to add overrides to.

From here, click "Advanced" and then enter overrides into the "Overrides" box.

What Options for Overrides Are There?

Currently we have lists of common overrides for Yealink, Polycom, Fanvil, and Grandstream.
