How do I do a Remote Packet Capture for Polycom VVX Phones?

It is possible to setup a remote packet capture for Polycom VVX Phones, eliminating the need for port mirroring or doing a packet capture from the Firewall. It is recommended to do this on the same LAN as the Polycom.

Requirements

• Polycom VVX Firmware 5.1.1 or later
• Windows
• Wireshark
• Overrides

Required Overrides

Wireshark

1. Select Capture Interfaces
2. Select Manage Interfaces
3. Select the Remote Interfaces Tab
4. Press the Plus Button
5. Enter the IP Address of the Polycom Phone
6. Enter Port 2002
7. Enter Username: Polycom
8. Enter Password: Mac address of the phone, all lower case, no spaces, colons, or dashes.
9. Press Ok
10. You will now be able to select this is a capture interface, it will capture all trafffic from the Polycom Phone.
